5 Tips To Consider For A Long-Term Storage Unit Rental

by Sophia Meyer

Do you need to place all of your belongings in a storage unit for a long time? If you don't want anything to get damaged while being stored away, you must be strategic about how the task is done. It is also a good idea to keep your belongings organized in the storage unit for easy access. Find out in this article how you should go about storing your belongings in a storage unit on a long-term basis.

1. Do Not Wrap Anything in Plastic

Make sure that you do not wrap any of your belongings in plastic before placing them inside of the storage unit. Plastic is a bad idea because it can lead to a lot of moisture accumulating, which can lead to mold and mildew growing.

2. Treat the Unit for Pests

It is a good idea to treat your storage unit for pests before anything is placed inside, as it can prevent your belongings from getting damaged. You can spray the unit to keep bugs under control. Laying out glue traps that can capture mice is also a good idea.

3. Rent a Climate Controlled Unit

When storing items on a long-term basis, it is wise to opt for a unit that is climate controlled. You must keep in mind that during the time your belongings are stored in the unit, the outside temperature will fluctuate. You don't want your unit becoming too hot, cold or humid as the weather changes. You can keep the temperature set at a certain level of degrees with a climate controlled unit.

4. Drain Fluid Out of Containers

If you have any containers that have fluids in them, make sure they are drained out and cleaned. For instance, don't leave fluid such as used cooking oil in kitchen containers. You should also empty out water bottles, such as the ones that you placed water in. New water bottles from the store can be safely stored without causing a moisture problem in the unit.

5. Use Shelves & Stackable Storage Bins

To keep your storage unit organize, it is a good idea to invest in shelves and stackable storage bins. By using storage devices in the unit, it will give you more floor space to walk on if you ever need to access any of your belongings. You will also have an easier time finding what you need. Stop by a storage rental facility and find a unit that is big enough for your belongings as soon as you are ready.
